    Valley of the Winds

    Landmark

Valley of the Winds is a walking route through the domes of Kata Tjuta within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. The trail passes between steep rock walls, open valleys and desert vegetation, with elevated sections revealing overlapping domes and the surrounding plains. The changing relationship between enclosed passages and broad viewpoints provides varied opportunities for desert and geological photography.

    Seasonal Access Risk

The Valley of the Winds walk begins at the designated Kata Tjuta trailhead and follows a demanding circuit through rocky and exposed terrain. Park entry fees apply. Parts of the walk can close when temperatures become excessive, and visitors should check current park conditions before starting. Kata Tjuta is culturally significant to Aṉangu, and all signs and photography guidance should be respected.

    Photography Notes

Valley of the Winds provides both enclosed and expansive views of Kata Tjuta. Wide lenses suit passages between the domes and can use rock walls and vegetation as foregrounds, while standard and telephoto lenses compress overlapping formations from elevated sections of the trail. Morning and low-angle light reveal texture and separation across the rounded rock faces. The contrast between narrow valleys, open desert and distant domes gives the walk substantially more compositional variety than the principal roadside viewpoints.
