Kings Cascade on the Prince Regent River, Kimberley, Western Australia.
King Cascades is a terraced waterfall on the Prince Regent River in the remote northern Kimberley, where water descends over stepped sandstone ledges into the river below. The falls are surrounded by layered rock walls and vegetation and are generally approached from the water. Cascading water, textured sandstone and the enclosed river setting provide opportunities for landscape and detail photography.

Why This Light
Season
Seasonally Distinct
Summer brings stronger water flow, greener vegetation and darker wet sandstone during the Kimberley wet season. Winter brings progressively lower flow, drier vegetation and warmer ochre tones across the exposed sandstone terraces.
Crowds
Usually Quiet
Restrictions
King Cascades is on the remote Prince Regent River and has no conventional road access, with visits generally made by expedition boat as part of Kimberley coastal itineraries. Waterfall flow varies considerably through the season, while tides, weather and river conditions can affect access. Current operator schedules, seasonal conditions and any local access requirements should be checked before travel.
