    Butterfly Valley

    Landmark

Butterfly Valley is a narrow coastal valley enclosed by steep cliffs on Turkey's Turquoise Coast, immediately south of Ölüdeniz. The valley opens onto a small beach and intensely coloured Mediterranean water, while its near-vertical limestone walls rise dramatically on either side. Dense vegetation extends inland from the shoreline, with walking trails leading towards waterfalls deeper within the valley. Its isolated setting and distinctive shape are particularly striking when viewed from the cliffs above.

    Seasonally Distinct

Summer brings intense blue water, dry surrounding cliffs and the highest number of boats and visitors. Spring provides greener vegetation and stronger waterfall flow, while autumn generally offers quieter conditions and warm Mediterranean light.

    Seasonal Access Risk

The classic elevated view is reached directly from the coastal road above Butterfly Valley, with informal viewpoints close to the roadside and extremely exposed cliff edges. The beach and valley floor are normally reached by boat from Ölüdeniz or by a difficult descent that should not be treated as routine visitor access.

    Photography Notes

The cliff-top viewpoints provide the defining compositions of Butterfly Valley, showing the beach and turquoise bay enclosed by steep limestone walls. Wide-angle lenses emphasise the complete shape of the valley, while telephoto lenses isolate boats, shoreline details and patterns in the water far below. Morning light can reveal stronger water colour, while lower evening light adds texture to the cliffs. Extreme care is required near the unfenced cliff edges when choosing photographic positions.
