Panoramic view from the Zigana Mountains across forested ridges and the winding mountain road in northern Turkey.
The Zigana Mountains form a high mountain barrier south of Trabzon, separating the humid Black Sea coast from the drier interior of northeastern Turkey. Zigana Pass crosses the range through steep forested valleys and high mountain terrain historically used as an important route between Trabzon and Anatolia. Dense conifer forests cover the lower slopes, while higher elevations open into alpine meadows and exposed ridges. Snow transforms the landscape during winter, creating a markedly different mountain environment.

Why This Light
Season
Seasonally Distinct
Summer brings green forests and open alpine slopes, while autumn introduces warmer colour through the mountain vegetation. Winter commonly brings substantial snow at higher elevations, while spring combines fresh vegetation with lingering snow on surrounding peaks.

Usually Quiet
Restrictions
Roads provide access through the Zigana mountain landscape, with photographic opportunities available from roadside positions and viewpoints around the pass. Snow, fog and rapidly changing mountain weather can affect visibility and access during winter and transitional seasons.
