Hot air balloons drift over the sculpted fairy chimneys and pink volcanic ridges of Rose Valley at dawn, one of Cappadocia's most iconic sunrise landscapes.
Rose Valley is a network of eroded volcanic valleys near Göreme, characterised by pale pink and rose-coloured cliffs, narrow ridges and sculpted rock formations. Layers within the volcanic tuff produce subtle changes in colour across the landscape, particularly where erosion has exposed different mineral deposits. Walking trails pass through orchards, cave dwellings and rock-cut churches before climbing between the surrounding ridges. The valley connects closely with neighbouring Red Valley and forms part of Cappadocia's main hiking landscape.

Why This Light
Season
Year-Round Stable
Spring and autumn generally bring mild temperatures and added colour from vegetation and flowering plants along the valley floor. Winter can bring snow across the formations, while summer is typically hot and dry with stronger contrast across the exposed terrain.

Restrictions
Rose Valley is explored on a network of hiking trails connecting the valley floor, cave churches and surrounding ridges. Routes vary in length and include uneven ground and steeper sections, with several trails continuing directly into neighbouring Red Valley.
