    Hvitserkur

    Landmark

Hvitserkur is a basalt sea stack located on the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes Peninsula in North Iceland. The rock formation rises directly from the tidal zone and features two arch-like openings at its base. The composition resolves through isolated mass, negative space within the arches, and reflection across wet sand flats.

    Photography Notes

Position at beach level to align the two arch openings cleanly against water or horizon. Small lateral movements significantly change how the arches overlap and how much separation appears between the legs of the formation. Shooting too high reduces the scale of the sea stack and weakens foreground reflections. Wet sand and shallow pools provide strong reflection opportunities but must not dominate the lower frame. Flat midday light reduces surface texture and weakens edge definition along the rock contours.
