    Beach

Diamond Beach is a black sand beach on Iceland’s south coast, located beside the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Ice fragments from the lagoon wash ashore and contrast sharply with the dark volcanic sand. The appearance of the beach changes constantly with tides, light, and ice conditions.

Access is via roadside parking near the lagoon outlet with direct beach access. Conditions vary with tide and surf; ice positions shift daily and are not fixed

    Photography Notes

Diamond Beach does not have a single fixed composition. Photographers work by isolating individual ice forms against sand or water. Low-angle light increases transparency and edge definition within the ice, while overcast conditions reduce contrast between ice and sand.
